Race Description
Start planning now to join us in Mesa Arizona for the opportunity to help make Phoenix aware of the silent killer that is Skin Cancer. The course will be a fast one, with paved roads and few turns. Those runners who are competitive and not-so-competitive will all be able to enjoy the easy going pace of this race, the beautiful fall valley weather, along with the beautiful sites of downtown Mesa and the camaraderie of other racers being involved in a great cause.

Course
All race courses are flat and fast and USATF Sanctioned.  All races are on flat paved and graded canal, providing a smooth, cool race for all participating in this year's Shun the Sun Skin Cancer Run 2011!  

• 6 water stations will be provided throughout the entire course
• 3 Port-a-Potties will be located throughout the race course
  
  5k runners will pass 1 water station & 1 port-a-pottie
  
  10k runners will pass 5 water stations & 3 port-a-potties
  
  1/2 marathon runners will pass 6 water stations & 3 port-a-potties

Age groups will be broken down by: 

• Ages 19 & Under
• Ages 20-29 
• Ages 30-39 
• Ages 40-49
• Ages 50-59
• Ages 60+ 
• Age groups will be broken down by Male & Female

 
Awards

• A Cash prize will be awarded to the TOP THREE OVERALL winners of the Half Marathon  
• Gift certificates will be awarded to the TOP THREE male and female of each age group for all races
• Awards can be picked up ON RACE DAY 
• Any awards unclaimed by November 18th will be donated to a charity of our choice

Race Shirts & Race Packets 

• All ½ Marathon, 10K & 5K running participants will receive a Shun the Sun Run 2011 - LONG SLEEVE Technical Running Shirt… back by popular demand!
• Family Fun Run participants will receive a short sleeved Shun the Sun Run 2011 shirt
• All ½ Marathon, 10K & 5K running participants will receive a Timing Chip - the new "D-Tag" is the most precise way to TIME runners from the beginning to the end of their race.
• All ½ Marathon Runners will receive a Shun the Sun Run 2011 Medal!  Medals will be presented to all race participants at the FINISH LINE.

Race Timing by Raceplace Events
Shun the Sun Run has selected one of the best Race Timing companies in the Valley.  With years of experience, Raceplace Event Systems will be tracking our race for the 3rd year running.  Raceplace Event Systems will be using the Chrono Track system timing technology to track your first step over the timing pad where you START the race to your last step over the FINISH line.  Instant results will be available to view on their timing screen, just off the finish line.  Results will also be available under Race Results by close of Race Day.

Timing Instructions
You must wear your "D-Tag" correctly in order to be timed.  Please review these instructions. Day of race instructions will be available.  Lost or broken “D-Tags” can be replaced, but limited replacements will be available.
